Race behind the race
Formula 1 teams and drivers are back at the historic site of the first World Championship race. This new era in motorsport began at the former air force base in West Northamptonshire on May 13, 1950, with Giuseppe Farina winning in an Alfa Romeo, later becoming the World Champion.
Over the past 74 years, Formula 1 has undergone significant changes. From just seven races in the inaugural season, the 2024 calendar now features a record 24 races. F1 has evolved into a global series, expanding far beyond its European origins.
The British Grand Prix marks the final leg of a triple-header, which started two weeks ago in Spain and continued with the Austrian GP last weekend. Following Silverstone, there will be a one-week break before another double-header leading up to the summer break. Formula 1 will then move to Hungary, followed by the iconic Spa-Francorchamps.
